Money Line NHL Betting – For each NHL game both teams will have odds listed for them to win the game. For example, if the Toronto Maple Leafs are favorites at home against the Ottawa Senators it would look something like this:

Ottawa Senators (+115)
@ Toronto Maple Leafs (-105)

The numbers in brackets represent the odds listed for each team to win the game, and are called American odds. If the number has a plus sign in front of it this means it is the underdog, and will pay out more than what you bet. For example at +115 odds a $100 bet would pay out $115, or a $10 bet would pay out $11.50. If the number has a negative sign in front of it this means it is the favorite, and will pay out less than what you bet. For example at -105 odds it would take a $105 bet to payout $100, or $10.50 to payout $10.

Over/Under NHL Betting – Each NHL game will also have what is called an over/under line listed with odds associated. The over/under line is the total amount of goals scored by both teams in the entire game. The NHL over/under line is usually 5.5 goals (but can be higher or lower), and it allows you bet on the total number of goals going over or under that special line. Here is an example of an over/under line and odds for any given game:

Over 5.5 (-110)
Under 5.5 (-110)

The numbers in the brackets represent the odds listed for each selection. If you are unsure how to read the odds check our explanation for the money line betting odds, as they are the exact same (American odds). Sometime the over/under line may be set at an even number such as 6. This means that you can pick over or under 6 total goals, and if it lands right on 6 total goals it will be a ‘push’ and your bet will be refunded for no action.
