NHL Picks for April 12th

2

A great night last night as we NAIL our 5 Star pick.  We were on the OVER between the Penguins and Flyers and we saw a 4-3 final score and the OVER cash in the third period.  What an exciting game and it was nice to get a big winner so early in the playoffs.

We also got a 1-0 lead in our 3 unit series play on the Predators over the Red Wings.  Nashville took Game 1 by a score of 3-2 giving us the all important first game of the series.

Tonight we have four games on the NHL board, and we have series plays pending on three of tonight’s teams.  I don’t see any moneyline plays I like tonight but I do have a total play going.

San Jose Sharks @ St Louis Blues – UNDER 5 GOALS (-110)
(Note: I’m risking 1.10 units to win 1 unit)

These two teams have met 4 times this season in the regular season with St Louis winning all of the 4 meetings.  Total scores in their meetings have included 4, 3, 1, and 6.  The UNDER went 3-1, and the total of 6 goals was way back in October with the game being played in San Jose.  In their two meetings in St Louis we saw 3-0 and 1-0 wins by St Louis.  You may look at the Sharks line up and think that they would be one of the league’s highest scoring teams, but the Sharks averaged just 2.67 goals per game on the season and just 2.46 goals per game on the road.  St Louis averaged 2.51 goals per game while giving up just 1.89 against per game.  At home the Blues goals against per game got even better at 1.68.  Take note that the UNDER is 8-3 in the Sharks last 11 road games vs a team with a home winning % greater than .600.  Also note that the UNDER is 19-7-8 in the Blues last 34 vs a team with a winning record and the UNDER is 38-15-18 in their last 71 games overall.  Disregarding “pushes” the UNDER hit 43 times for the Blues this year compared to the over at just 21.  Look for the Blues to play a shutdown style tonight, and we should see a low scoring game.  In the playoffs here I think we have value on the UNDER 5 goals tonight.

Lets also sit back and hope our picks on series winners can all take a 1-0 lead in their respective series’.  Enjoy the games.

  1. Thanks Pete, mental mistake — I had that in a write up for clients but had something else in my mind when I was doing this write up. Cheers and good luck.
