NHL Picks for February 23rd

A split last night as the Devils got things done with a 1-0 victory in Dallas, making it 8 straight wins, but the Sharks and Wings played a higher scoring than anticipated game with a 4-3 final.

Two picks going here for free tonight, and two premium NHL picks at the Sports Picks King.

Also I have my eye on a GOW/GOM type play for tomorrow depending on where the line opens up at.  If you haven’t already you will want to sign up to receive these picks which are only emailed (for free) – click here to sign up.

OK lets get to tonight’s picks…

NHL Betting Picks for Wednesday, February 23rd:

San Jose Sharks @ Pittsburgh Penguins – SHARKS TO WIN (-125) – First off it is important you get the Sharks at -125 (5Dimes.com) as some sites have them listed at -145 right now.  The Sharks have won four straight games and 13 of their last 16 games, which includes a 4-3 win in Detroit last night.  San Jose isn’t bothered too much by no days rest as they are 5-3-2 playing in the second of a back to back.  The Penguins are feeling the effects of missing their key players, losing two straight and 6 of their last 8 games.  Over their past 5 games the Sharks are averaging 3 goals for and just 1.80 goals against.  The Penguins are giving up an average of 4 goals per game in their last 5.   The Penguins are playing in their third game in four nights and are 1-4 in their last 5 games in that situation.  San Jose is 6-0 in their last 6 games vs a team with a winning record, and 7-2 in their last 9 games as a favorite.  Note that the Penguins are just 4-11 in their last 15 home games vs a team with a winning road record.  This injured Penguins line up shouldn’t be able to slow down the Sharks if they come to play.  Get the Sharks at -125 at 5Dimes.com

Los Angeles Kings @ Anaheim Ducks – DUCKS TO WIN (+115) – Our underdog pick of the night is going on the Ducks.  These two teams have near identical records at 32 wins a piece as they battle for a spot in the Western Conference playoffs.  After winning 4 straight games the Ducks come into tonight losers of 3 straight, but have had 3 days off to forget about about those losses.  Curtis McElhinney will get the start again tonight, and has fared much better at home with a 2-2 record and .907 SV %.  Jonathan Quick will go for the Kings, who have lost two straight road games coming into tonight’s game. Tonight is their 10th straight game away from home.  These two teams have met twice this season, each winning at home.  Note that the Kings are 2-8 in their last 10 games as a road favorite, and 3-7 in their last 10 games vs a team with a winning record.  The Ducks bounce back from big losses, as they are 4-1 in their last 5 games following a loss of 3 goals or more.   Also note that the Ducks are 8-3 in their last 11 home games.  Another trend to take a look at – the Kings are just 3-8 in their last 11 meetings in Anaheim.  Value on a home underdog tonight in the Ducks.

  1. Like Sharks+128 in Regulation
    Really like ATL+146 @ Buf

Not sold on ANA vs LA

    Thinking about Sens+102 Regulation ML

  2. I like the Sharks pick… Not to sure how I feel about Anaheim. I think LA will pull it off. I think Anaheim is in yet another losing streak. Allowing 21 goals in the last three games doesn’t help things.

Edmonton is my underdog pick for the night. With Elliot having his first start for the Avalanche, I don’t think he is going to play any differently then where he came from.

    Other picks for the night…

    Florida, Edmonton/Colorado Over, Atlanta/Buffalo Over.

I would take Buffalo but not sure -155 is a good value.

  3. Doug I like your pick with Edmonton… I don’t think there is any value with Buffalo at -155 tonight (just my opinion though).

Shoe good luck with your ATL underdog pick.

  4. I bet the over for Kings vsDucks / Edmonton vs Colorado / and Florida vs Ottawa

I really like the over bet for tonight.

  5. Hey kev what do you think of the under 6 in atl vs buffalo game? How about Tampa bay upseting phoenix since phoenix might use their back up goalie today?

  6. @Mike – U6 atl/buf sounds good. Tampa Bay is actually the favorite in that one. Not sure about the o/u in the lak/ana game.

    Good luck!
