NHL Picks for February 24th

6

Another split yesterday, as the Sharks got things done against the Penguins but the Ducks couldn’t come through as underdogs for us against the Kings losing 3-2.  These break-even days aren’t the worst that could happen, but I am looking for a big night here tonight – and think I have found some good value on a lot of plays.

6 NHL games on the betting board tonight… plays are below.  Also click here to sign up for my free and exclusive picks I don’t post on the website (Game of the Week/Game of the Month pick coming this weekend!).

NHL Betting Picks for Thursday, February 24th:

New York Islanders @ Philadelphia Flyers – UNDER 5.5 GOALS (+115) – It’s hard to ignore  goaltender Al Montoya for the Islanders who is getting the start here tonight.  Montoya is 3-1 with a 1.42 GAA and .946 SV % in his short time with the Islanders so far.  New York is coming off a 2-1 loss to Toronto, but have won 6 of their last 8 games.  Bobrovsky will get another start for the Flyers – he is 23-9-4 on the season with a .918 SV%.  Note that the UNDER is 5-0 in the Flyers last 5 home games, and 7-3 in their last 10 games overall.  Also note that the UNDER is 10-3 in the Flyers last 13 games vs a team with a winning % below .400.  The UNDER has hit the last two times these two teams and 5 of their last 7 meetings.  We’re getting value with the UNDER in this one at +115.

Toronto Maple Leafs @ Montreal Canadiens – MAPLE LEAFS TO WIN (+142) – The Leafs come into tonight’s game still in the hunt for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.  They have won 3 of their last 4 games (with their loss coming in shootout) and are riding the play of netminder James Reimer.  Reimer is giving the Leafs a chance to win every game they play with his .934 SV% and 2.12 GAA.  The Canadiens are coming off a big win in Vancouver Tuesday night, but are having their struggles winning just 2 of their last 8 games played.  Alexander Auld is between the pipes tonight as Carey Price gets the night off.  Auld has done a fine job playing the back up role with a 4-2-1 record and .926 SV%.   Note that Montreal is just 1-4 in their last 5 games as a favorite and 1-5 in their last 6 games as a decent sized favorite of -150 to -200.  Both teams are struggling offensively lately and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a low scoring one goal type game here tonight.  With Montreal fresh off a 3 game Western Canada swing I like the Leafs at +142 tonight.  Toronto is my big ugly underdog pick of the night.

Chicago Blackhawks @ Nashville Predators – PREDATORS TO WIN (+103) – Neither of these two teams are playing outstanding hockey at the moment as they both are in the tight race for the Western Conference playoffs with 31 wins a piece. The Blackhawks are 5-5 in their last 10 games while the Predators are 4-6 in their past 10.  Both starters (Crawford and Rinne) are expected to start in net and have been stellar this season.  Chicago is just 3-8 in their last 11 road games vs a team with a winning home record, and are just 1-4 in their last 5 games as a small road favorite.  Also note that the Blackhawks are having troubles putting together winning streaks, as they are just 1-4 in their last 5 games following a win.  These two teams have already met 5 times this season with the Predators winning 3 of the 5, including both games on home ice.  We can expect a tight game tonight, but I don’t think the Blackhawks deserve to be favorited here.  Take the Predators with some value as small home underdogs.

  1. Hey keV I’m gonna take you recommendations, bit I’m really weary about Toronto beating the Montreal , but I’m gonna trust you 😉

  2. Wow… This doesn’t look like a great betting night after looking at the odds on the games. But of course it is impossible to resist the itch… Gotta scratch it. 🙂

I like the Toronto and NYI/PHI under pick Kevin! I think it’s pretty solid.

I am liking Minnesota as well. It should be a low scoring one point game but I think Minnesota can pull it off.

Anyone have thoughts on the U/O for Detroit and Dallas? I mean Dallas can’t get their offense together. I wouldn’t be surprised if they can’t get more then 1 goal tonight. I am not seeing Detroit get more then 4 with that being said.

  3. I Dallas gets it together eventually – and Datsyuk & Zetterberg could always score 3 each – I would not bet under on a DET game.

Agree with Kev’s first 2 picks but I am liking CHI tonight as Taves, Kane & Sharp are on fire…and Rinne is not.
