NHL Picks for January 24th

Ouch the Thrashers got spanked yesterday, and have really gone down hill since their big run back in December.

Overall a good week of profits though!  We went with 2 GOW picks and nailed both… I am now 10-4 in my exclusive members only picks, which have included some underdogs as well!  Click here to sign up free

I will be keeping my eye on GOW/GOM quality picks this week again as I look to have another big week.  6 games on the NHL board tonight, and I have a few plays that I like.  Lets get right into tonight’s NHL picks…

NHL Betting Picks for Monday, January 24th:

Dallas Stars @ Vancouver Canucks – STARS TO WIN (+153) – The Dallas Stars dropped their most recent road game in Calgary on Friday, but are still 8-1 in their last 9 road games.  The Stars have won 7 of their last 9 games and Kari Lehtonen has only dropped one game in his past 7 starts, where he has allowed no more than 2 goals against in any game.  Vancouver who were not long ago the hottest team in the NHL, have lost 4 straight and 6 of 8.  The Canucks have cooled down offensively averaging just 2.20 goals per game in their last 5 and are facing some injuries in the back end, with the latest casualty Kevin Bieska via the KO Saturday.  Dallas is 6-2 in their last 8 games as an underdog, and 4-1 in their last 5 games as an underdog of +150 to +200.  The Canucks are 0-5 in their last 5 games as a favorite.  You won’t get me off betting the Stars here at +153 tonight.  Dallas is my underdog pick of the night!

Nashville Predators @ Calgary Flames – UNDER 5 GOALS (+130) – Tonight we will see Pekka Rinne vs Miikka Kiprusoff in net for this Western Conference battle.  Rinne has been great all year, and on the road is 11-8 with a .924 SV %.  Strangely enough Kiprusoff hasn’t played too well at home this season, although he does have an 11-7-1 record.  You have to think that the Flames have gained a bit of confidence coming off of a big 7-4 home win and then a 4-3 shootout win in Vancouver on Saturday night.  Calgary hasn’t counted themselves out of the playoffs yet with how tight things are in the Western Conference, and you can expect them to start playing like every game is a playoff game from here on out.  These two teams met mid October and the Flames won 1-0 in overtime.  Only 1 game in these two teams past 7 meetings have gone over 5 goals, and the UNDER is 9-4-1 in their last 14 meetings in Calgary.  I expect a playoff type feel to this game as both teams look to better themselves in the West standings as we get closer to the All Star break.  Take the UNDER 5 here.

Good Luck Tonight… leave comments below with your picks for tonight or thoughts on my picks!

  1. Not really sure on the preds @ flames under 5 tonight. In each of their last 7 games, thats fourteen involving either, there’s only been one under 5 goals(flames @ maple leafs). Good shout by the bookmakers @ 5 goals rather than 5.5 though as i reckon it’ll be 3-2 one way or the other. Good luck though if you do back it.

  2. I think that last night game was close game with the Edmonton Oilers and i think that Preds will be very tired after these road games …

  3. @Stephen – The Rangers/Caps is one I’m going to stay away from because of the goalie match up and a lot of player injuries. Tough to call.

@Ivan – I really don’t like either side of the line for that game… Preds have been playing well and the Flames are a confident bunch right now.

    Good Luck both of you…
