NHL Picks for January 9th

Unfortunate again as we had a play on the Canucks and the Over with Osgood expected to get the start… he had a minor injury and the Red Wings started Howard in net – I wouldn’t have made either play with Howard going, but it happens I guess.

I hit my big underdog pick on the Wild, pushed the Bos/Mon OVER 5 with a late comeback by Montreal, and loss the TB/OTT Over.

NHL Betting Picks for Sunday January 9th:

Tampa Bay Lightning @ New Jersey Devils – DEVILS TO WIN (+115) – Yup, I am on the Devils tonight.  Despite losing four straight games, the Devils have actually played fairly well, out shooting the opponent in each of those loses.  Tonight Marty Brodeur will be starting for the Devils, who let in no goals yesterday in relief of Hedberg in their 2-1 loss.  The future hall of famer has a lot to play for right now, as we all know he doesn’t want to finish his career as a back up.  It looks as if Dan Ellis will be starting for Tampa Bay in the second game of their back to back, and he has a below average 3.08 GAA and .884 SV % on the season.  The Lightning are averaging just 2 goals per game in their last 5 games, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they came out a little flat here against the leagues worst team.  Tampa Bay is 2-6 in their last 8 Sunday games.  Note that the Lightning are 3-13 in these two teams last 16 meetings and 1-6 in their last 7 meetings in New Jersey.

Dallas Stars @ Minnesota Wild – STARS TO WIN (+100) – The Dallas Stars had last night off after a home loss in shootout to the Rangers.  Dallas has won 6 straight road games coming into tonight, and are 12-7-1 on the road this season.  I had a pick on the Wild last night, and they came through with a 4-0 win in Pittsburgh, giving them their fourth straight win.  Minnesota is just 1-5-3 playing on 0 days rest this season, and 1-4 on 0 days rest after a win.  Dallas has had the extra time to prepare for tonight’s game and is 7-4 on 1 days rest after a loss.  I mentioned last night that the Wild play well as an underdog, but they are just 1-5 in their last 6 games as a small favourite of -110 to -150.  Dallas is an unbelievable 6-1 in their last 7 games as an underdog.  The Stars are 19-7 in these two teams last 26 meetings.  I like the Stars as another underdog pick tonight.

San Jose Sharks @ Anaheim Ducks – DUCKS TO WIN (+100) – Now that the line has shifted making the Ducks the underdogs I have added this as a play.  The Sharks have dropped three straight games coming into tonight, with all of those games being home games to make things worse.  The Sharks lost 2-1 to Nashville last night, while the Ducks had the night off after a 6-0 win at home on Friday against the Blue Jackets.  Anaheim has won 4 of their last 5 games, and have 22 wins on the season compared to San Jose’s 21 wins. The Ducks are a solid 14-7-1 on home ice.  Anaheim is averaging 3.40 goals per game over their last 5, and only 1.60 goals against per game over that span.  These two teams have met twice in San Jose this year, splitting the games with one win a piece. Anaheim isn’t getting the credit they deserve on home ice here tonight and it is a great spot to get in on a home dog.

  1. There you go !!
    3 out of 3 , good job kevin !

but how did you know newjersey will beat tamba ?????
    no one thought of that…

  2. Thanks guys.

@Jack – I just liked the situation they were in. I caught big parts of the Devils past couple games and they have playing better hockey, just not getting the bounces to win. TB hasn’t been the same offensively as of late, and playing a mid afternoon game on the road against the leagues worst team after playing the night before is pretty tough.

  3. Kevin i have to say
    You really convinced me !
From now on i have to trust your picks..
    so 3 in a row.. lets go for 10 in a row !! 🙂
