NHL Picks for March 15th

18

Alright lets get back at it.  NHL is pretty full with 9 games on the betting board and I have found some picks that I like.

Besides the GOW winner last week I had a rough week.  Good news is I usually bounce back from bad weeks with a solid week 🙂

Working really hard for a nice winning week here, and hope I can help you win some money too.  Handicapping NHL close to the playoffs gets tougher, but I am just going to work that much harder.  Lets start things off with a great Tuesday…

NHL Betting Picks for Tuesday, March 15th:

Atlanta Thrashers @ New Jersey Devils – THRASHERS TO WIN (+170) – Atlanta is coming off of a huge comeback 5-4 OT win against the Flyers in Philadelphia on Saturday night, which keeps them in contention for a playoff spot in the East.  Atlanta had been playing awful hockey, but have won 3 of their last 4 games (with their loss coming in OT to New Jersey). The Devils have continued their incredible run, winning 22 of their last 27 games.  The amount of one goal games the Devils have been in is amazing – they are averaging just 2.2 goals for per game in their last 15 but an amazing 1.33 goals against per game in that span.  Although everything is pointing towards New Jersey in this one, these two teams are fairly evenly matched up (and it shows in the standings).  Prior to the 3-2 New Jersey win just 4 nights ago the Devils had beat Atlanta 3-1 in New Jersey and Atlanta had won the first meeting 7-1 in Atlanta.  Both teams know that losing this game would probably make it near impossible to make this years postseason and will be looked at as a playoff game.  I think the odds are favoring the hot Devils too much in what should be a one goal game either way.  Grab the Thrashers as our big ugly underdog at +170 tonight in New Jersey.

Philadelphia Flyers @ Florida Panthers – FLYERS TO WIN (-153) – Tough for me to lay this much chalk on a road team, but the difference in talent here is substantial.  The Panthers are getting too much credit for their past 4-3 OT win against the Lightning where they were outshot 38-27 and their 3-2 win over the Blackhawks where they were outshot 39-15.  The Panthers are just 7-19 in their last 26 games overall.  The Flyers are struggling lately winning just 2 of their last 7 games, and need a bounce back game tonight as they look to head into the playoffs with high confidence.  Note that the Flyers are 12-5 in their last 17 games as a road favorite, and 7-2 in their last 9 road games vs a team with a losing home record.  Philly is also 42-18 in their last 60 vs Eastern Conference opponents.  The Panthers are just 3-11 in their last 14 home games, and 6-24 in their last 30 home games as a big underdog of +110 to +150.  Also note that the Panthers are just 1-5 in their last 6 home games vs a team with a road winning % greater than .600.  The Flyers won’t be taking the Panthers lightly tonight as they look to bounce back from an ugly loss Saturday night.  Take the Eastern Conference’s top team tonight with confidence.

Carolina Hurricanes @ Buffalo Sabres – SABRES TO WIN (-140) – Probably the biggest game of the night as far as playoff positioning as both teams are battling for a playoff berth in the East.  The Hurricanes come into tonight losers of 4 straight games.  Buffalo has been up and down winning 2 of their last 3 games and 7 of their last 11. Carolina is 2-8 in their last 10 games as an underdog of +110 to +150 and 1-10 in their last 11 games as a road underdog.  They are also just 2-6 in their last 8 games vs Northeast division opponents and 5-14 in their last 19 in the third game of a 3 games in 4 nights situation.  On the other hand the Sabres are 7-1 in their last 8 games as a home favorite of -110 to -150 and 52-27-2 in their last 86 home games vs a team with a road winning % of less than .400.  The Hurricanes are just 2-8 in their last 10 meetings in Buffalo.  Paying attention to both teams lately I can tell you that the Sabres have been playing a lot better hockey.  Combine that with the home ice and I think the Sabres should be able to get a big win tonight.  I’m on the Sabres.

  1. My picks for tonight (parlay)

    Los Angeles (to win)
    Phiadelphia (to win)
    Pittsburg (to win)

    Good luck everyone!

  2. I also like the under 5.5 goals in the Columbus-Boston game and Pittsburgh to beat Ottawa.

  3. Good picks all but Atlanta. Devils stride towards a po-spot is amazing and I don’t think a visiting trashers will rock their boat.

  4. No play yet but i’m looking to bet on:

    Washington over montreal
    WAS/MTL Under
    NYI/NYR Over
    PITT over OTT
    BOS over CLB

    What do you thing ?

  5. It’s hard to pick, that’s why the odds are so even I think. Montreal has won six of their last seven games. Washington have won 8 straight games. Montreal has a really hot goalie right now and it’s going to be played on home ice. I was also leaning towards Washington to win but I wouldn’t be surpised if Montreal sneaks another win. I expect a low scoring game anyway but I’d stay away from this game if I were you. Hope this helps.

  6. @Tim – I think it will be another tight game, so we’ll see if the Thrash can pull off the big upset.

@Phil – Yeah the Caps is a tough play tonight. I would lean towards Montreal on home ice, but can see it going either way. Good Luck. Oh and I like the NYI/NYR OVER.

  7. @Jimmy – Not a fan of Phoenix tonight or Florida. I do think Ott and NYI are live dogs though.

  8. John Anthony /.Jack on

Guys i have a good bet !! a parlay you guys call it i think….

Nashville Predators – Los Angeles Kings Totaal aantal gescoorde goals 5,5 – Alleen reguliere tijd Under 5.5 1,57
Calgary Flames – Phoenix Coyotes Totaal aantal gescoorde goals 5,5 – Alleen reguliere tijd Over 5.5 2,05
Buffalo Sabres – Carolina Hurricanes Totaal aantal gescoorde goals 5,5 – Alleen reguliere tijd Over 5.5 2,05
New Jersey Devils – Atlanta Thrashers Totaal aantal gescoorde goals 5,5 – Alleen reguliere tijd Under 5.5 1,52
Montreal Canadiens – Washington Capitals Totaal aantal gescoorde goals 5,5 – Alleen reguliere tijd Under 5.5 1,62
Columbus Blue Jackets – Boston Bruins Totaal aantal gescoorde goals 5,5 – Alleen reguliere tijd Under 5.5 1,68

    total 27.29 x 5 = 136.45 great or not ?

LA and Boston are tricky.. the others are sure !! 😉
soo maybe without is that 2 is better then you keep a price of 10.35 for 4 games

what do you guys think ?

  9. Dont know that the Cal game will go over, Flames banged up a little, I like the ‘yotes there.

  10. Anyone watch the end of the ATL/NJ game? We had ATL tie it up with 30 seconds left but the ref waved it off for a high stick… I thought it was below the crossbar – tough to say though.

  11. I went crazy and picked an 8 game parlay. Don’t really ever do this but did it for a laugh after a friend hit 7 games last friday and won $900 from a $10 bet. I know how unpredictable icehockey is today so normally stay away. Anyway I picked: Devils, Sabres, Rangers, Yotes, Kings, Senators, Flyers, Bruins. Hit 6 out of 8.

Sabres and Senators let me down. In hindsight my feeling about the Penguins losing was wrong but I thought the Sabres was a strong bet.

  12. Ah tough luck Jonny. Sabres had 40 shots on net – I think we were on the right side there.
