NHL Picks for March 31st

After hitting 9 of 10 picks I finally had a small losing night here with my free picks.  We pushed our UNDER play between the Islanders and Devils that looked good with only 2 goals heading into the third, and I lost my pick on the Rangers who dropped a 1-0 decision to the Sabres.  My other play on the night that went on the Sports Picks King betting system was the DUCKS as underdogs and that was a winner.

I want to get right back with more winners today, and we have a nice 10 NHL games on the betting board to find some value.

Slightly off topic, but the MLB season starts today and I am pumped for that.  Most of you know, but for those that don’t know I run a very similar MLB picks blog giving usually 1 pick per day out for free.  This is a busy time of the year for me, but luckily I do this stuff full time so I easily have the time to cover both sports and keep working hard at it.

Lets get to tonight’s NHL winners…

NHL Betting Picks for Thursday, March 31st:

Pittsburgh Penguins @ Tampa Bay Lightning – OVER 5.5 GOALS (+120) – The Penguins come into tonight winning 6 of their last 8 games and now see themselves just 4 points back of Philadelphia for the division lead and top spot in the East.  Tampa Bay has won two straight games heading into tonight after they had lost 6 of 7 games prior.  The Lightning have been averaging 3.28 goals per game at home this season, and are giving up 2.95 goals against per game on average overall.  The OVER is 4-0 in the Lightning’s last 4 overall and 4-1 in their last 5 home games.  The Penguins have been playing the under as of late, but when these two teams have met this season we have seen high scoring games with totals of 9, 6 and 8 in their three meetings.  We usually see totals of 6 when these two teams meet, but with the Penguins injuries we have a a 5.5 total tonight and a generous price on the OVER.  I think the trend continue with another game between the Penguins and Lightning making it OVER the total tonight.

Ottawa Senators @ Florida Panthers – SENATORS TO WIN (+115) – Not a real exciting game between two teams who are trying not to finish at the bottom of the East with just 29 wins a piece in 77 games played.  The Ottawa Senators have Craig Anderson between the pipes who is 8-4-1 with a solid 1.99 GAA since being traded to the Sens.  The Panthers start Scott Clemmensen who is 8-7-7 in his 27 games played this season with the Panthers.  The Sens are 5-4-1 in their last 10 games and feeling a little better about themselves lately, while the Panthers have been competing but are just 2-5-3 in their last 10 games.  Note that Ottawa is 5-2 in their last 7 road games vs a team with a home winning % of less than .400.  Florida is a brutal 1-7 in their last 8 games as a favorite, and 0-4 in their last 4 vs a team with a winning % below .400.  To further that the Panthers are 0-5 in their last 5 home games vs a team with a road winning % of less than .400.  The Sens like playing in Florida, winning 17 of these two teams last 22 meetings in Florida.  Also note that Ottawa is 28-10 in their last 38 meetings.  The Sens have some young players who are working hard and playing well lately, and I expect them to continue tonight in front of Anderson. Give me the Sens on the mony line.

Toronto Maple Leafs @ Boston Bruins – LEAFS TO WIN (+185) – Call me crazy, but I think we have some value here in taking the Leafs to win tonight.  James Reimer gets the start for the Maple Leafs who still have that very outside chance at making the postseason sitting 7 points back with only 5 games remaining.  Reimer is an incredible 12-4-1 on the road this year with a .923 SV%.  Toronto has been playing well winning 4 of their last 5 games, which included a 5-2 home win against Boston back on the 19th.  The Leafs came out with a ton of energy in their last game on Tuesday night against the Sabres who they are chasing for a playoff spot.  The Bruins have gotten back on track winning 4 of 5 games after they had lost 6 of 7 prior.  Note that the Leafs are 4-1 in their last 5 road games vs a team with a winning home record and 5-2 in their last 7 games as an underdog of +151 to +200.  The Leafs are also 4-0 in their last 4 games vs divisional opponents.  Which brings me right into these two teams head to head this year  – the Leafs have taken 3 of their 5 meetings which includes a 4-3 win in Boston in February.  This young Maple Leafs team is riding the energy and haven’t given up hopes yet.  I think there is too much value on the Leafs tonight to pass this game up… Toronto is my big ugly dog of the night.

  1. Kevin, what to you think about the LA Kings for this night???…
I think the Canucks are already with there head in the Playoffs and the Kings are still fighting for a place in that stage, a think there is also lots of value in the Kings tonight, what is your opinion?…

  2. Paulo I’m staying away from that game, but if I had to choose I would go with the Kings at +160. I can’t see Vancouver shutting it down yet, especially playing a team that they might face in the playoffs. Remember Kings are without Kopitar and William – two big pieces to their offense which hasn’t been too good this year even with them. The line looks nice, but I wont be betting it.

  3. Really like the Senators and will probably parlay them with the under, which before there last 2 was hitting at a great rate.

I agree good value on Toronto, Bruins will come out hard and probably should be slightly favored, but if they fall behind they may have a let down and let the leafs steal this one.

  4. I like Nash in Col, partly because I like Elliot to lose every time he laces up these days.
Pinnacle had this listed at -140 when I got in, but Its losing value sliding to -159.

  5. Kevin, what you think about minny- oilers? tampa-peng? and where you see the underdog: jackets or atlanta?

strong locks: nash – nyr- ottawa?!!

  6. Honestly, I’m surprised this Rangers game is still (-135). This is a must win for the Rangers and the Islanders have absolutely nothing to play for. Yes, the Rangers are coming off an exhausting game in Buffalo last night, but I’ll take the Rangers here. My only concern is how the line has stayed so stagnant – I would have figured that the public would be pounding the Rangers ML. Am I missing something?

  7. Hey Dustin, couldn’t comment because the Rangers is a play for our SportsPicksKing system. I agree it was a great line, lets see what happens.

Shoe – I loved Nash at -140 tonight, but it quickly moved on us.

  8. Kevin,

Great Ottawa pick!!! Helped me win big on a parlay with Wash….keep up the great run!!!
