NHL Picks for March 9th

The Kings were simply out played last night and the GOW was a loser.  We won a unit back with the Blues, but that doesn’t make up for Los Angeles losing to Columbus. I’ve got my eye out on a big play for Saturday so make sure you watch your email this weekend.  A small NHL board tonight, but I do have one play I’m going with.

Florida Panthers @ Pittsburgh Penguins – PENGUINS TO WIN IN REGULATION (-140)
(Note: I’m risking 1.40 units to win 1 unit)

The Panthers were in Philadelphia last night and lost 5-0, making them losers in 3 of their last 4 games.  The Panthers beat Ottawa at home on Sunday, but previous losses included a 3-1 home loss to Nashville and a 7-0 loss in Winnipeg.  Florida still sits a top of the Southeast division with their 31-23-12 record and 15-14-4 road record.  The Penguins are looking for their 8th straight win tonight, after a Wednesday night victory over Toronto gave them 7 straight wins.  Other wins have come against the Rangers, Lightning, Blue Jackets, Stars, Avs, and Coyotes.  Take note that 6 of the 7 victories were in regulation.  The Penguins are 40-21-5 on the season and a solid 22-8-2 at home.  These two teams have met 3 times this season, with Pittsburgh winning 2 of the three which includes a 4-2 home victory (the road win was a 4-1 win).  Florida has gone 0-6 in their last 6 games in Pittsburgh.  Note that the Panthers have won just 5 of their last 17 road games, and only 8 of their last 26 games as an underdog.  The Penguins have won 21 of their last 29 home games and 19 of their last 26 overall.  Also note that Pittsburgh is 11-1 in their last 12 vs the weaker Southeast division.  Pittsburgh should continue their run with Marc-Andre Fleury back in net tonight.  I like the Pens to win in regulation.

About Author

  1. Love this pick and I also like the Kings to beat the Red Wings, paying 2.25. Red Wings have struggled a bit at home since their home winning streak and Kings have been on fire.

  2. went 2 out of 3 last night, with phoenix letting victory slip through their fingers in a penalty shootout after a great 3rd period comeback, philly and st. louis wrapped things up easily enough.
today the only straight forward pick is pittsburgh, though i’d be tempted by the jets in calagary as well.

  3. Went 2-0 last night as both Devils and Canucks get things done in regulation. I have one play going for today:

    Rangers to Win (+100)

    Good luck everyone.

  4. @Brandon, KINGS lost to CLB last night.I like DET to win tonight at home against the KINGS,also like PIT nad NYR to win.

  5. John Anthony on

    My Pick for today:

    Pittsburgh win in regular
    Detroit win in regular

I even think they will both win with -1.5
I expect a big win for both.

By the way.. why Rangers ? any special reasons ? they have some players back ? or what…

  6. A 0-1 night as the Rangers lost to Hawks 4-3. It was a tough loss to swallow. But this is the way game goes. I’ll be back with a play or 2 for tonight..

  7. I like Nashville over Detroit tonight,Should be interesting to see if Detroit can lose back to back games in there home town.

  8. Hey Kevin, Can you please tell me who is the goal tender for Stars tonight? Is it Lehtonen or Bachman?

  9. Horrible Dallas? They are in 3rd in the Western Conference (6th most points, but first in their division).
