Tonight’s play below…

Dallas Stars @ Colorado Avalanche – AVALANCHE TO WIN (-125)

1 unit play.  The Dallas Stars have pretty quietly lost 7 of their last 9 games and 2 straight after a good start to the season.  They are now 13-9-1 on the year but just 5-6 on the road.  The Stars are going through injury problems right now, including most recently their starting goalie Kari Lehtonen. Lehtonen was 13-4-1 on the season with a 2.34 GAA and .926 SV%, and was the main reason the Stars have had as much success they have this year.  Andrew Raycroft will now get the start tonight – he is 0-5 on the season with a 3.50 GAA and .899 SV%.  The Stars are getting outshot on average 35-26 on the road this season, and going against Colorado we can expect 30+ on Raycroft tonight.  Besides Lehtonen out, the Stars will be missing Goligoski, Burish, Daley, and Morrow.  The Avalanche are just 10-12-1 on the season and 4-8 at home, but they are coming off a big 5-2 win against the Oilers at home on Saturday.  Colorado has enjoyed 4 straight home games and had just one game in the past 4 days.  On their 4 game home stand they have already beaten the Stars 3-0, and outshot the Stars 40-29 in a crazy 7-6 overtime loss in Dallas earlier this season.  Colorado is on extra rest and should be able to get things done at home against a Stars team missing a lot of key players.  Take the Avs laying a bit of chalk at home.

  1. Dallas is coming into tonight’s game without their star(no pun intended) goalie due to injury. Although Dallas hasn’t done well as of late, they have reputation of being a tough road team. Because Raycroft knows he is going to be in net for probably the next couple of games, he is going to work very hard on proving himself to the team. Varlamov, on the other hand hasn’t really acclimated to the altitude so it will be interesting yet once again to see if can keep the puck out of the net. If the coach was going with a well seasoned goalie like Gig, one can see a possibility. Realizing that Colorado is a minus 11 team at home and is a newly formed team, most of which are kids, the outcome of their success is shotty at best. Conversely, a veteran team like Dallas has a better chance of shutting down the scattered offense of the Ave’s. This game at best is a 50/50 toss up and there are better games in which to pick for today’s action.
