NHL Picks for October 12th

0

With only two games on the NHL board I laid off making any picks.  Like I said in the email I sent out, I thought there was value on the Senators -110, but when it moved up to -125 and -130 there wasn’t much value in the play anymore.

Another slow day in the NHL, with only three games on the betting board.  I do have one play for tonight’s NHL action.

I am also keeping my eye on a few games upcoming where we might have a spot to make a 5 Star pick.

Let’s get right into tonight’s pick…

Vancouver Canucks @ Philadelphia Flyers – FLYERS TO WIN (-125)

(Note: I’m risking 1.25 units to win 1 unit)

This new look Philadelphia Flyers team has looked great to start the 2011-2012 campaign.  The biggest acquisition the Flyers made was between the pipes with Ilya Bryzgalov, which has paid off so far.  Bryzgalov is 2-0 with a 0.50 GAA and .977 SV% in his first two starts.   The Flyers starts the season off with 2-1 win in Boston to spoil the Bruins home opener and Stanley Cup banner night, and then went into New Jersey and shutout the Devils winning 3-0.  Philadelphia enjoyed 3 days off to prepare for tonight’ home opener against the defending Western Conference champs.  Vancouver is off to a 1-0-1 start, after losing their home opener 4-3 to the Penguins in shootout followed by a 3-2 win in Columbus on Sunday night.  Vancouver hasn’t looked as dominant as they were last year n their first two games and I think it will take them a bit of time to get going, especially with Kesler and Raymond out with injuries up front.  Note that the Flyers are 6-2 in their last 8 vs Western Conference opponents.  This will be a bit of a revenge game for the Flyers, as the Canucks beat them 6-2 in Vancouver last year.  Philadelphia has looked like the better team, has a very hot goalie in net tonight, and although they have looked quick in their first two games they will have even more energy in the tank playing in their home opener.  I’m on the Flyers to get things done here in their opener.
