In the betting world it’s always nice to not have to sweat your way through a game in order to come out on top.  That was the case in last night’s pick as the Bruins handily took care of the New York Islanders in what was an impressive road victory from one of the Eastern Conference’s most reliable teams.  Boston jumped out to a nice 2-0 lead after the first period and they never looked back in what turned out to be a 5-2 win for the B’s.  When predicting a game like this, there weren’t exactly a whole lot of numbers that stood out in favor of Boston, especially given the Islanders were among the East’s best teams, however gut feeling does come in to play on some occasions and this was one of them.  Nice to come right back with a winner last night and I will look to continue that success once again this evening.

Pittsburgh Penguins @ New Jersey Devils

The Pittsburgh Penguins have hit a rough patch in their quest to remain one of the Eastern Conference’s premier teams as they have lost eight of their last nine games on the road and 11 of their last 16 games overall.  However, while they are on the road for this contest, they picked one of the better teams to be playing against this evening.  New Jersey beat the Maple Leafs on Wednesday night with a 2-1 shootout victory, but this was one in which they were very fortunate to come out on top.  They tied the game with less than three minutes left and escaped an overtime period where they were extremely lucky to survive.  New Jersey averages only 2.21 goals per game and if they plan on scoring just a single goal in regulation again this evening, this pick is a lock.  Pittsburgh’s injury woes have not helped their cause but they are healthier now that Sidney Crosby is back in the lineup and along with Chris Kunitz and David Perron the first line is as dangerous as any in the East.  Marc-Andre Fleury has recorded five career shutouts against the Devils which is his best mark against any NHL team and his .920 save percentage and 2.36 goals against average is almost exactly the same as Corey Schneider’s numbers of .921 and 2.37.  That tells me since the goaltending is even, the game comes down to who’s offense is going to show up.  You can’t tell me it’s going to be New Jersey’s.  As mentioned their 2.21 goals per game is 28th in the league ahead of only Carolina and Buffalo and their 21st ranked penalty kill will be in tough against Crosby and company on the Pittsburgh powerplay.  New Jersey won just their 8th home game of the season on Wednesday and Pittsburgh has still won ten road games despite losing eight of their last nine away from the Consol Energy Center.  This pick here is one where I am simply taking the much better team to beat the much worse team.  Betting does not have to be complicated.  Take the Penguins tonight to come out on top of the Devils, this time in regulation.
